Album Review

It's always fun to go on Noisetrade and find some free new music. Today I came across a fantastic album. Love & War: B-Sides & Remixes EP by Josh Garrels is his latest project to
show up on Noisetrade, proceeding the album, Love & War & The Sea In Between, which was
the inspiration for this latest EP.

Love & War: B-Sides & Remixes EP has some songs from Love & War & The Sea In Between like Processional, White Owl, Slip Away, and Rise, but all of these songs have a new and unique twist. With the addition of electronic and synth sounds of Slip Away and Rise, traditional sounds of Processional, classic rock sounds of Run, rap of Anchor, and the nice grooves of Cynicism, Valor, and White Owl, the songs are remixed very well.

The EP starts off with a nice Celtic sounding redux of Processional. Unlike the original, it is lead by violins with the occasional ethereal vocals by Josh. Then we are taken back by the new remix of White Owl. The new White Owl has a nice R&B back-beat, but keeps its urban sound with a nice assortment of funk chording and bass licks, as you can hear above. White Owl is my favorite song by far. The album continues with nice classic rock/groovy Run, Cynicism, and Valor. The rap section in Anchor is also very well done and adds another dimension to Josh Garrels' already great EP.

Josh shows his also Christian influences in his lyrics. Cynicism references John 8:7 in his lyrics:

"Don't stand alone and cast your stones at her
Unless you think you're innocent yourself
The same measure that we use to condemn men
Will be the same that's poured out upon our heads"

And in Anchor, the lyrics are talking about how God remains and sustains.
