Album Review
Well it has been 2 years since we heard from the boys of Pax217. Since their last effort there
have been a lot of changes. They officially replaced Skwid on drums with Joey Marchiano. Which really wasn't a drastic change since Joey was on most of the songs on Engage. Tito Duran percussionist and keyboardist left the band. The brother of Tito, Bobby Duran turntablist and emcee also has left the band.

Let's see where should I start. When I first threw "Check Your Pulse" in the cd player, I was surprised that nothing much had changed, considering all the recent changes to the line-up. All of these songs sound like they could of been on Engage. Minus the fact that none of them have the trade mark turntable. The first song, the track title "Check your Pulse," also the first single off of the Ep. Is a song that is full of explosive energy, it's a nice little ditty. If I had a complaint it would be that the message of the song is kind of confusing and the lyrics are a little cheesy. The next song "I Can't Get By" is one of my favorites on the disc. The opening riff is awesome. I love the energy of this one it's not over the top, in fact it's just right. Dave's vocals are top notch on this one too. "Kiss Me Glory" is the one song that I really can't get enough of. This one can hold it's own against any of the best tunes that Pax217 has written. It's a great mid-tempo groove, the rhythm section really carries this one along. As usually with most Pax songs it has a great melody.

The whole problem with this album is as much as I like it. I feel like the boys were just hopping along on cruise control. They are capable of much better, but who expected them to knock us over after "Engage." That is one heck of an album to follow-up. I think they gave us a good package of songs to hold us over until the next release.   Let's hope they are taking this time between full-length albums to reinvent themselves.
