Album Review
Hip-hop artist Paul Wright's side-project Rootdown is back with their third project, Tidal Wave. The creative reggae
group delivers an all-new, ten-track record full of songs about their faith
in God, love, and relationships.
The upbeat "Good Day" gets things going well, and speaks of trusting in God
to get through the day, and declares that "today will be a good day." All
around, this track was wonderful, and a great opening track. The title
track, booming with bass, was an amazing pop/rock track, and the hip-hop
acts were awesome as well. Hands down, the title track, "Tidal Wave" was one
of the best tracks on this record from Rootdown.
"All I Wanna Do," and "Golden," were a set of sweet love songs, "All I Wanna
Do" saying "all I wanna do is be with you" and was actually my favorite
track on Rootdown's Tidal Wave project. Filled with electronic effects, it
was also the one track I found myself stuck on repeat with. The harmonies of
"Golden" were a large asset to this track, while "You're Mine" followed, and
this catchy pop track with hip-hop intervals was highly enjoyable and easy
to sing along to.
"Storm Warning" follows on a more serious note, even beginning with thunder
effects, and leads into a track about growing up, aptly titled "Growing Up."
The one-minute musical instrumental at the end of this track was highly
enjoyable as well.
"HB" was an fun, Jamaican sounding track, while "Karl Malone In A Cowboy
Hat" is the most hip-hop sounding track on the record, and gives a good
message of stepping up to the plate and doing something, rather than sitting
around. This second to last track had a very similar sound to Paul Wright's
solo projects (no surprise). Finally, Tidal Wave ends with "Weekend," a fun
track about hanging out with friends all day.
Rootdown's third project Tidal Wave is fantastic! I enjoyed this project
from start to finish, and the mix of fun and serious lyrics made the project
even better. This is definitely a new favorite project of mine, and I
recommend you check it out as soon as possible!
