Brought to you by a young, unself-conscious quartet from Boulder, Colo.,

``No Room`` provides the supplementary dose of easy fun that`s been missing from your pop music diet. Crystalline production, bubbling keyboard arrangements, snaky guitar lines and a tight, syncopated rhythm section make songs like ``When It`s Raining,`` ``Another Disaster`` and ``Did You Ever Look So Nice`` an expansive musical evocation of the Rocky Mountains. Despite similarities to the Police-forced to the fore by lead singer/guitarist Sean Kelly`s high, plaintive, Sting-like vocal harmonies-the Samples` songs have a likeable, unpretentious ska-rock quality all their own. After releasing an LP on Arista Records in 1990, the Samples decided to escape the label`s perceived meddling by moving to W.A.R. Records, an independent, grassroots outfit started by a former EMI A & R director. Through constant touring, the band has developed a respectable base of devoted fans who are not put off by having to hunt down their copy of the band`s most recent musical output. Though it may not make the Samples a household name, ``No Room`` is worth going out of your way to find.
